#SuperFoods: Mother Theresa’s “Miracle Drink”
There’s a beverage Mother Theresa labeled as “the miracle drink” after receiving it from Tibetan monks in the Himalayan Mountains. Now you have an opportunity to nurture this miracle bacteria! Here’s the 411 on everything you’ll want to know about this Miracle Drink also known as Kefir Grains!
First understand that the grain is like a child, that you nourish and grow, and if you’re not careful, lack of treatment may cause the kefir grains to DIE! Now back to the positives:

Where do you get it?:
This beverage does not come from a sort of fountain of youth. This drink is brewed from grains called tibicos or kefir grains. I was blessed enough to get my hands on some from my cousin. You also cannot find these in
Wal-Mart or Publix. They are passed down from family to family or neighbor to neighbor. They are NEVER to be sold, they’re too sacred! But if you can’t find any in your area, you can find some in Amazon.
How to maintain them:
It may seem difficult at first but it is very simple!
-panela(unrefined whole can sugar) or brown sugar
-glass jar with stainless steel lid
-stainless steel spoon
-Fill a glass jar with purified water (about 4 cups) at room temperature, drop a piece of panela(about 1/4 of a block of panela) into the water. Over time you will feel comfortable as to how much water and sugar you should use.
– drop your tibicos(kefir grains) into the sugared water.
-Cover the glass jar up with either a stainless steel lid or a small towel with a rubber band.
-Drain the water out after 24 hours of fermentation with a strainer and drink it!
-Repeat the same process with your left over kefir grains(you will notice that they have multiplied and you may have to give some away!)
-If you take good care of them, these will last you forever! They’re delicate so make sure you use a stainless steel spoon to scoop them up.
-It kept me awake throughout the day. One time I drank too much of it and was almost to the point of being tipsy. This IS an alcoholic drink. Maybe 1%. At least it felt like it.
-I poured some in my mango tree and now the mango tree is actually growing mangoes!
-I poured some in my neighbor’s bushes and they flourished!
